On March 27, Christine Sprunger, a Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences student traveled to Washington D.C., with 50 other Agronomy, Crop and Soil Science scientists to take part in Congressional Visit Day.

During the trip Christine met with members of congress, where at the Agriculture Day Ceremony, she presented Senator Debbie Stabenow from Michigan, with the 2014 Excellence in Soil Stewardship Award from the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). This award recognizes policy makers whose exemplary leadership has strengthened U.S. agriculture, food and natural resources research.

When asked about the experience, Sprunger said, “It was an honor to meet Senator Stabenow. The importance of the Farm Bill cannot be overstated as it brings security to thousands of American farmers and scientists doing important research. Without her leadership as Chairwoman, the bill likely would have been weaker and might not have passed."

Additionally during the same Agriculture Day ceremony, Christine was presented with the 2014 Future Leaders in Science Award.

Congratulations Christine!
